Im just not sure of how safe it is to upgrade turbos on a car wit higher mileage like that, without rebuilding the whole thing
dude people upgrade turbos on DSMs with near 200K on them.  I wouldnt worry about it.   the motor is much stronger than the DSM versions.

the thing is your 'POS' is a DSM they are always broken.  The Evo has the same engine code but is hardly related to teh DSMs at all.  10000x more reliable

Ok first let me say I know I'm a newb to this forum, but being that I have an '05 MR I was very interested into the "suckyness" of the 6 speed.  I drove both the normal and MR before buying and I liked the way the 6 speed shifted a lot better.  Also it's not that it sucks there are just some possible problems that actually can be remidied easily if needed.  By needed I mean you are driving your car hard for long periods of time.  I found tons of useful info in this post on EvoM.net check it out:

Hey guys,

Ive got a 9. Ive been to the track at least 10 times this season with my car with no tranny issues running it at its fullest potential. A couple of these were with AMS during thier track days and I was an instructor. On those trackdays, the car only had time to rest while the passanger/student/AMS employees changed in the pass seat. Almost ran every session, back to back, on those days.

Car now has 27k on it and was first at the track with only 600mi on the odometer when I got it last year. Ive been to Road America in it several times, Autobahn tons of times and have been known to screw around/drift in the wet. I also Ice solo on lake Hustisford with it. I also admit to launching it with the launch control many times.

At 27k, the stock clutch is starting to slip. No other technical problems with the car.

TBE, Drop-in, AMS flash. 28psi on race gas on the track. 312whp on pump.

1 qt Super light weight shock proof topped off with MT90. Same as we run in our road race Prelude.

Heavier oil will INCREASE temps. Shearing thicker oil produces more heat. Not shifting correctly and using your engine and trans to help slow you down creates the most heat. I'd have to say first its technique, second its the oil.

I wouldnt trade the 6spd for the 5 if you paid me. 6spds is always better for accel on a road race track. Closer ratio. And remember, theres peeps out there that have figured out how to break shep trannies. Dont give up.

MHO." so there is a lot of support that its not the tranny is crap you just need to do some mods for cooling if you are going to really beat on it via track days.  I too have had no trouble with mine and love it
Note: there is useful info mixed with people talking crap with no facts so read the good stuff and ignore the moronic comments :)

Why on earth would you want to do this?
Its quite common actually.   The MR 6spd SUCKS BIG ONES.  It is very very weak and it is slower in the 1320.  it is only slightly better in the autoX (which the car was made for I know)

yessir, isnt the 6 speed more prone to having 4th, 5th and 6th gear go out? my friend with a 330 awhp IX MR, wants to change it for a 5 speed because of this factor. he has like 4k on it? ahaha and he said its already taking a crap

Sounds to me like someone just doesnt know how to drive or doesnt take care of it. Thats the reason alot of people have drivetrain issues, its the operator not the equipment. Like the clutch. Alot of people complain they only get about 20k on them. But emonz had over 40k on his and never had to replace it.

you have no clue what your talking about john.  The MR tranny is a POS and 4/5/6 gears are horrible and overheat and get chewed up pretty easy.  That is why its a common swap to go from the 6 to the 5spd.  The MRs that get track time alot break really fast with low miles or not.  If the car is run hard threw the higher gears it will take its toll
