LOOK!!! ive been reading so much about how to improve a 420a, did all the search this forum has to offer and i have seen both good and bad examples of wat to do with this motor. i know not to expect 100hp gains or anything like that but i think the 2g eclipse is awesome and though i appreciate any answer you give, wat i often hear as an answer to many questions is to SELL THE CAR and buy a gst/gsx. though many might think its a waste of money to spend on a motor like this, i tend to keep it... to much history with this car so........i have 2500 to spend on the motor ive already got the exaust, headers, short shifter, intake. usually i spend money wisely so thats y i want to know.......how can i benefit the most out of the money ive saved? thanx for any help you can give and btw, im not counting on labor, just parts.

you can turbo the car with that amount of money but you wont be able to run more than 8psi on it. This would be a short list of stuff you would need:

-A turbo kit This is probably the cheapest with decent quality you can find
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Treadstone-Turbo-Kit-Eclipse-Talon-420a-DSM-Mitsubishi_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6755QQihZ008QQitemZ180209536308

after this you will still need some fuel upgrades and head gasket and head studs i would suggest doing as well. Id say total you could probably get away with alittle over 2500 total.

However IMO i wouldnt do it. I just dont see enough of a gain in spending all of this money. Even though from what i have seen, an average cost per HP is about $1000/15whp. This is just a basic number but it seems to work out. IMO i better bet would be to maybe stay NA and put some cams in. Get alittle gain out of it. Have fun with the car for now and save your money. Because in the long run, maybe even a year, you will get sick of the car and want more just like everyone does. And youll look back and wish you didnt waste all the money now when you could have been saving it for either a good downpayment on a new car, or mods for a car that takes alot better to them. Thats just my 2 cents

I really think its a poor plan to put nitrous and FI on a 420a...

no it's too much power for that thing. and besides you could get nitrous backfire which is where instead of going out the exhaust it shoots right back into ur engine. and you can see the outcome, and there's no way to prevent it, it can happen the 1st time or the million'th time, it's unpredictable. i say get cams and save the rest, cuz it's always good to have sum money laying around.
and msd ignition won't do anything itself, you need the fuel to support the spark it'll give off
and yeah u prolly raced a gsx and the kidd didn't kno how to drive. in my first car(96 gs), i raced an sti from a light, and i took him by 3/4 of a car at the beginning, cuz he had no clue wtf he waqs doing, but caught up once he got that turbo spooling, so the same s*** prolly happened to u

yea thats about right. Probably between 5-10hp. You have to realize that a NA 4 cylinder is never really gonna give you much in gains without alot of money. Surprisingly the honda motors can give better gains staying NA. Ive heard a a few instances where tuning them really helps. But i digress, These 420a motors were built for one reason, reliability and gas mileage. Just a good economy car. To make them anything else is never cheap nor easy
