1992 Eclipse GS, 2L.  I can accelerate, kind of.  When I give it just a little gas, it does eventually speed up, but if I give it too much, all I get is RPM.  I read the previous thread and got the idea that perhaps my clutch was slipping, but there are other issues.

Like many 1G, my syncros are totally ****ed.  I have to double clutch to get out of reverse, and I lost my 5th gear totally.  I was wondering if anyone might think this could be an issue with gear oil.  I'm a college student, so taking it anywhere and getting any work done to it that isn't absolutely neccesary is completely out of the question, and since I don't trust anyone around here, I'd have to drive home to get any good prognosis.

So...help?

sounds to me like the clutch is slipping and its burnt out. It might be a multiple problem between the clutch and the syncro's

Yeah, I kinda figured, but I was really banking on someone pulling some random prognosis that I would never have thought of out of thin air.

And if anyone has one of those, please share.

Well for one, your clutch is slipping, and its only going to get worse. It will get to the point where you cant go above certain speeds.

Your tranny is also done.

At this point, replacing both would be more than what the car is worth. Its up to you.

Yeah what everyone else said, your clutch is on its way out along w/ the trans.  Do both while your there.

well that might not be necessarily true. You can get a tranny from a junk yard and you can get a new oem clutch cheap. Might get away with just the disc. And then the labor on a FWD isnt all that much. Id say if your spending over a grand total its overkill

Work is gonna be cheap to free, and parts are gonna be vultured, so I just wanna make sure it's not something obscure I'm overlooking.

Well with tranny's there are very few things that attribute to problems

- Clutch
- Internal transmission components (syncros)
- Flywheel
- Linkages
- Gear Oil

To me it seems like you have the internal issue and the clutch definetly
