Hey guys i just signed up im a new member and new to eclipses.

Recently I had a 2000 Audi A6 which is an amazing car but I just cant afford the maintanance and I have to pay off bills and its real gas hungry. So im selling it and im looking at eclipses.

The reason i like it is because the fairly old models look good compared to may other cheap cars of that year. I know honda civics are great and will last a long time but they just look awful.

I hear people always saying that eclipses are extremely unreliable. So my question is are eclipses relaibe? Im looking at eclispes with around 80k miles and up. So is there even a point of buying one with that many miles if everything is about to start falling apart?

I need some insight from you guys so help me out! THANKS! :)

A year, and trim model would help us. Take care of any car, and it'll take care of you. Drive it like a fast and furious clown, and expect your passenger floor board to blow out;)

the take car of any car and itll take care of you is right but i want to know how often i would have take care of it lol. A honda you never have to take care of it. Same with the Audi, but when it does break it costs ALOT. Thats why i cant have it anymore.

ahh i believe you, my brother told me that one of his friends had an eclipse and all the wheels fell apart on the highway lol

Im planning to go for the 3rd generation models, dont know what they call that body style but 3rd generation according to the forum. Probably around 2000-2003 eclipse with like 80k miles and over, probably around 100k. Is there any point?

How long would it last me?

If you maintain the car and take care of ever single problem religiously, it'll last forever. Remember, teh 3rd gen was made for old people and girls. It's not a high performance automobile. It won't break if you don't beat it.

haha i can see why you say that. Im scared of by the Before 2000 year models. I actually like how they look better then the after 2000 ones, but i heard they are EXTREMLY unreliable.

Well the point is i dont know anything about eclipses so help me out what kind should i get for under 7000?

Well, i suppose my next question to you would be what you want to do with it. You want a reliable d/d? Or do you want to dump some cash into some power parts?

nah i want reliable for now. im not gonna do any performance mods or anything. I dont care if its slow. All im gonna do to it is do cosmetic things to it. The reason is its temporary and i need something more reliable.

Get a nice GS then. Non reliability is overated. Like i said, just stay on top of repairs and maintenance. My old RS was at 146k miles and ran like a top. The only thing i did to it in teh last year of ownership, was plugs and wires.

Plus the 4g64 platform could be good later if you want to mod. Assuming you get a 3g. The 420a isnt quite as dependable IMO.
