Hi, I'm new here and to the Eclispe and Talon world.  I just purchased a 1993 Talon that has some sort of transmission issue.  The former owner told me the tranny was working fine until one day is made a loud kinda bang or pop noise and it completely stopped working.  There is nothing in any gear including reverse.  I have never seen a car that the tranny just completely stopped in all  gears  in this sudden manner.

Does anyone know if there is any part that could break in an auto tranny to cause it to make this loud sound and completely stop working?????  Also what year tranny will work in my car???

Help!!!!!!!!    Please!!!!!!!

Thanks much

What does the fluid look like?  Is all the linkage hooked up properly?  A trans should just not stop at all like that, you could also have an issue w/ the tcm.

Possibly the Torque Converter, or transmission input shaft split. Eather one would make a definate "bang" when falure occours. The good news is eather one is an easy fix. You need to get the trans out to know for shure. Anything from here is strictly a guess untill you get the trans out & post some picks. Then I could be of more help.   -----kj

i have seen many torque converter inputshaft splines go bad in all models of mits. pull out the tranny and remove the torque converter and drain the fluid out. look in the center to see of the splines are still there.
