what kind of oil is recommended to use on outalnder 2.4 petrol? Anyone know what kind of oil the car has from the factory?
Any particular brand you use?

After 1200 miles I would always mobil 1 Synthetic

Always always use oem oil filter

The dealer told me the factory use bedding oil to help the engine ware in slightly/Controlled way

Did you get that information from the same dealer that is selling you the filter?

There are so many variables that effect the ware of an engine (oil level, temperature, engine load,..), I fail to see what they could do to a filter in order to control ware. I think somebody is taking you for a ride!

The car industry is the same as any other, the OEM filters are contracted out and the supplier changes all the time.

I have a 5 Year Full Synthetic oil change included when I got my XLS 3.0L and they use the Pennzoil Full Synthetic and they told me that It was the one that Mitsubishi recommended.

Its up to you but mitsubishi oem filters have a pressure realese valve in them. the last mitsubishi car I put a crap cheap filter it was blown apart dumping oil all over the road 2 miles from the repair shop.

Always always fit an oem filter why spend £21k on a car and save a £'s on a filter madness as for the cost for me my car a lease car so I dont pay any service costs.

Wave your warranty bye bye when your engine gives up the ghost due to a £5 cheapo filter

I said about the bedding in oil used

the filter was a remark about using the correct the filter when changing the oil I said nothing about the oil filter being used to bed the engine in just when you change the oil make sure you use an oem filter

Sorry, I took the word "Factory", as "OEM Filter".
And I'm not suggesting you buy a cheap filter, you can probably get a better quality after market filter for a less money than the OEM.

If you guys are so worried about the filter and you can't make it to the dealer, buying a decent aftermarket one will work just fine, maybe better. I use the mobil 104, and so far no troubles, there are many high end filters to choose from that include the relieve valve that some one on here was talking about, theres even a K&N to choose from, but why buy K&N when you can get the mobil, which is just as good for cheaper, minues the K&N has a drilled out hole for safety wire, in case you race and the car encounters high vibrations, but I doubt you guys are racing your outies anyway.

For those of you that switched to synthetic oil, what is the cost difference between convetional and synthetic at your dealer?

I'm having my first oil change tomorrow morning and may switch to synthetic, but last i checked with my other car it was like $30 more per change. If it's still so high, I'll buy a case myself and have the dealer pour that in. Are you using the same weight oil (5W30)?

Also, i've read some articles that say you should wait til at least 5K to even 10K miles before switching to synthetic. Any thoughts?

You can switch to synthetic just fine at any time. Buy the case your self and do it your self too, its verry simple, drain, switch filter, and put in new oil, can't believe dealers charge an arm and a leg for a simple task.
