There are plenty of F1 drivers that have done that. Shoomie was penalized for having to change his engine out after qualifying, and that means back of the grid. He still won.....

OK, so where is Juan Pablo Montoya, Dario Franchitti, Patrick Carpentier, Sam Hornish, Jr., and Tony Stewart all racing now?? Yeah that's right b!tch NASCAR! LOL...They were all open wheel drivers at one point who have converted over.

IDK, actually..just thought about that derrrrrr but anymore you do see quite a few major open wheel guys driving NASCAR. Even World of Outlaws legend Steve Kinser drove NASCAR for a while...Dave Blaney and Kasey Kahne came from open wheel dirt track cars...I like all forms of racing including F1 and KART but not a huge fan of motorcycle racing all though I will watch a Motocross race once in a while. It is quite a feat coming from the back and finishing in the top 10 and especially winning no matter what form it is.

I used to Kart pretty heavily... man I miss it. I sold a 1993 100cc 2 stroke for over a grand : )

What I meant about KART, Sebbz, were the open wheel cars very similar to F1 cars, it's just a different division like the legends Rick Mears and Bobby Rahal raced....Those little shifter Karts are insane...I watched them on an episode of Pinks not too long ago and they wer hitting like 130 mph on the straights with 125cc motors I think..no seatbelts, no roll cages and you're only a few inches off the ground...craziness!

Thats what I used to do. Mine was a single speed though. Decent gearing + 19,000rpm = well over 100mph
