ok so here it is, i am looing to purchase a very upgradeable, car. the first thing i thought was an eclipse, but i "test drove" my friends eclipse, its a 2001 gt, but i really dont like the way it looks, i mean yeah it drives nice, but i started reading about a 3000gt, and pretty much fell in love wit it. i was wondering if it is a good daily/racer. any comments welcome. actually if you are gona comment on how i should get one of those ricer hondas, then go **** yourself i dont want a 4 cylinder that ends up sounding like a pissed off weedeater on steroids.

Ever thought of something newer? Perhaps an EVO? Its just that the 3000GT's are getting old now. Maybe its time to step it up a little?

Totally, im not trying to discourage him from that. Im just being realistic here. I mean if you want power, and speed, obviously something 15 years old is going to be a little on the unreliable side once you start modding. I'm also guessing that money is a factor here, so the 99 VR4's are out, because they are crazy expensive.

Does that sound like a pissed off weed whacker to you?

well right now the 3000gt sounds good as though im 16, have a very low budget, and want something bigger than 4 cylinders.  and didnt sound like he went above 2,000 rpm on the outside test

reconsider that.... low budget... there ya go... like sebz stated depending on how abused is that 3kgt... it will be somehow unreliable, uncomfortable, if you get a good one, no big deal... but keep in mind... old car... and if that is not a problem... go ahead and welcome to the forums =)

your making a big mistake going for a 3000GT over a DSM if you want a go fast car.   If you want a daiy driver the 2000-2005 Eclipse is good but never will be fast.  The 3000GT is expensive as hell to mods, a pain in the balls to work on, and the early years bottom ends are only 2 bolt mains and they spin bearings easy which is no an easy fix

For get needing a v6 motor cause that is a Joke.   I have an I4 and my car is faster than most V8s on the road.  When I went to the track last years I had the second fastest street car there.   I was beating supercharged mustangs and GTOs all day and it doesnt sound like a weed wacker when you have a turbo on a 4g63 motor.
