Ok, the transmission was just replaced but the car shifts wayyyy too fast about 400 or 500 rpms sooner than it should and it's missing the passing gear. Any suggestions besides a jacked up tranny?
Also the idle speed controller motor was just replaced but there's nothing coming from the harness, we've put a dvm on the connection and we're getting 0 volts to the motor, we figured the controller itself is hosed. Thanks for any help!!

Yep I'd agree that the controller itself MAY be hosed. What you need to do though to be sure is do a resistance check between the controller output right AT the controller and teh input at the motor to see if perhaps it's not the controller hosed but possibly a break in the wire somewhere. As for the shifting problem I'd say the tranny was rebuilt wrong somehow. What do you mean by passing gear? I've never heard of a passing gear. I've heard of a kickdown cable that drops you down a gear when you get on the gas to pass someone. Is that what you're refering to? If so then check the kickdown cable itself. It may be disconnected and never reconnected when the new tranny was dropped in.

Your problems sound like the classic "capacitor leak" to me. On the 90-92 eclipse/talon/laser, DSM had used faulty capacitors on the ECU and didn't realize it until it was too late. I have owned three 1g eclipses and each of them hade the same troubles. Before you spend money on the tranny or a controller (retail 250 to 400) research this subject and have your ECU checked. The bad news is that if they did leak you will be buying another computer. If you buy a used ECU in proper running condition have the capacitors replaced. They are about 30 cents a piece and any electronics repair shop can do the work.

If anyone knows how to read teh computers I have 2 sitting here (I think one is the TCM the other the ECM not sure which is which as I have no car to compare them to mine sits in Florida). I could sell you one prolly cheaper than the dealership or whatnot if you need one.

Looks like someone sliced the cable harness coming from the controller, will probably have to replace the bundle... thanks for the help everyone...
