Does anyone know of a how to thread to help change belts on a 99 Montero Sport?  I've searched and also gone back to page 13 until I gave up.

If there's no thread some guidance on how to would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

Jason

accessory belts?

You have to loosen all 3 tensioners which is just a matter of loosening the bolt at the center of each pulley, then loosening the bolt on the tensioner itself.  Two tensioners can be accessed from the top, but the alt tensioner has to be accessed from the bottom.  It is a little tricky to get them around the fan, but anybody can figure it out.

Getting the tension set at reinstallation can be a little tedious, but no big deal.

Is there a guide or rule of thumb so I'll know their tight enough or not too tight?

Thanks for the help!

I've never used anything other than feel and common sense.
If they're functioning properly now (not slipping/squealing), give them all a tug so you know about what the ideal tension is.
If they're too loose they'll squeal.
If they're too tight it can accelerate belt, bearing and accessory wear.
