About to buy new speakers for my 98 rs

right now i just have 2 kickers in the door that are 65 watts.

Should i get another 2 kickers and a 12" kicker sub?

This is the route im most likely taking but i would like opinions.
I know JL audio also have pretty good speakers.
What type of AMP should i get for this ( i presume i would need one).
And is it difficult to wire it yourself?

MA audio is good stuff..JL are decent subs...It would be better to get a decent 4 channel amp for your highs like your mids in your doors, 6x9's in the rear, and your tweeters in your dash and get a seperate amp for your subs...also beef up your power source a little by getting a bigger alternator or beefing your stock one up, get alternator relay, and maybe a seperate dry cell battery for your system...read the write up on my system in the "Everything Else" forum and it's under the "More Power Tunes" thread..If your looking for big decent sound then concentrate on your power source too.

Id avoid MA. Kicker makes a fine amp, and decent subs,
Try some MB quarts. (As far as interiors go)

Well whatever brand of speakers and amp you get, it's all about how you power your system. If you try and run everything off your stock alternator and battery then you're not going to get much out of your system because they are also trying to power everything else with the car as well...beef up the power source.

Agreed - especially in the context of Kicker and JL

Storm - you don't need an alternator upgrade for a few hundred watts.

I would definitely suggest an amp though.

IMO - for a good sounding cost effective set up I like the idea of (and have had good experiences with) a good quality 4 ch amp.
You use 2 pairs of channels to power a nice set of front speakers and bridge the rear two channels for a mid-power sub.
You can drive your rear speakers with the head unit or stock amp, whichever you have.

Something like this would work well and give you over 300w to a 4 ohm subwoofer...

Back in my "chinsy stereo" days I had a small 4 channel Kenwood amp running my 6x9's and my 2 12's but the 12's weren't anything special, just a pair of MTX's..I was running the front speakers off of my JVC head unit....The amp got hot but it did the job....just couldn't push it too much cuz it would get hot and shut off...it was a great lil' amp and I miss it actually...I was just running it off my factory alternator in my Probe but when the bass hit the lights would dim.

some light dimming does not necessarily mean your alt is over worked.
It means it's a bit slow in reacting to current demand.
If your car turns over strong every morning your alt is doing what it was designed to do - charge the battery.
