Hello,

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant. Recently I noticed that the Temperature Indicator Meter goes way near the HOT mark. What can be the cause to this? Please let me know as I am getting tensed and could figure out that the engine is getting hot, but wanted to know what can be the cause?

1. Your thermostat could be stuck and not opening
2. Possible headgasket failure (Usually associated with very poor engine performance
3. Very low coolant levels (Prolonged undetected leak)

When was the last time you had your cooling system flushed and checked? How does the coolant look in the reseviour tank and how much is in the tank? Does the car overheat within a short amount of time or after a period of prolong driving.

Like what grim said, sounds like a bad thermostat. How many miles are on the car? You might want to check the condition of the coolant and make sure ther are no leaks.

hello! first thing i would do is check your coolant level. if it is very low, fill up coolant and check for leaks. the radiators on that model sometimes split right behind the filler neck, not hard to find. also where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine ALWAYS corrodes. remove the hose and get all the corrosion off the neck, the apply RTV on the neck to fill in the pits the corrosion caused and put on a new hose clamp. those pinch style clamps from the factory are crap!! if all that is ok, i would let the engine run and when the engine get to or a little beyond the 1/2 mark, watch to see if the cooling fan comes on, if not the fan motor is bad. replace the motor and all will be fine!! just as a precaution i would replace the thermostate anyway. that is not something to wait untill it goes bad to replace!! not hard to change, follow the lower radiator hose to the engine, and its behind the neck.unbolt the 2 12mm bolts and there it is!! good luck!! greg...
