Hi guys, this is my first post, I just bought a 99 Eclipse GS exactly one week ago and it started to make a whining sound. My mechanic told me the AC compressor is seized! He said it should be safe to drive as long as I'm not using heater/AC, but if the belt breaks it may affect the alternator and/or water pump. I've contacted the dealer but he's on vacation until Monday  so I don't know if my warranty will cover it. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks

**Edit**

I'm basically just asking if its OK to drive for a while until I get a new compressor?

if you know what the problem is... there isn't much we can do for you other than to tell you to get a new AC compressor.   it's not hard to replace it.     but if you have a warranty, i'm sure i't not going to expire in a week.

Sorry, that wasn't very clear. I'm really just asking if it's a bad idea to drive it (no heat/AC) with a seized compressor. ie, will the belt heat up too much or something like that?

You should be fine, just don't use the a/c or the front defroster.
