Lightman -> 2000 4cyl eclipse rpms at cold startup? (3/24/2008 4:58:45 PM)

Hey all, first post. I drove my gf's '00 5spd 4cyl eclipse the other day and noticed that upon cold start, it really revs up high, unlike any vehicle i've been in. Some vehicles I've noticed will rev a little higher than idle on startup and then gradually ramp down a few seconds later. Her car revs to 1500-1700 rpm upon start up and stays there...it doesn't idle down to normal levels until the car has been driven. I've waited 30 secs to a minute and it stays revving that high. Is this normal for these cars or whats up? Thanks.

My 3Gs all start up cold at like 1500.  they stay there for about 10 mins maybe 15.  Basically when the temp needle starts to raise up the RPMs drop down alittle untill both are normal

That's pretty crazy, wonder why they do that. Thanks for the reply though, at least I can rest assured there's nothing wrong.

Its a cold start man.  All mitsu's have high cold starts anyway.  Ever notice that they warm up quick so you can toss the heat on with in 5-10 minutes where other cars take forever

It does it just the same in 110F cali summer weather..i do notice the heat available quickly then ;) In all seriousness tho no, I don't notice it warming any faster than other vehicles..just the annoying high idle ;)
