Ok, so i'm about to remove my engine in my 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse Gs. I wanted to know I have heard that you have to drop the motor instead of lifting it out because of the transmission, is this true or can I disconnect drive axle and transmission? I am looking to beef the engine up bore, port and polish, polish rods, mill pistons, bigger camshafts ect. any suggestions? I had the mainbearings seize around the crankshaft and thought this would be the best idea.

you can pull it out the top but its easier to drop the subframe.

Also what are your plans for the car. Im hoping you planning on going forced induction. Because trying to stay naturally aspirated and build the engine is totally pointless. The reason i ask this is because there are 2 directions to go with the bottom end. Either Higher compression for NA or lower compression for forced induction.

You should never just start buying parts without knowing your final goal. Otherwise youll waste money on either the totally wrong parts, or something that wont handle your goal.

Thanks! Well my goals for the car is to use forced induction= turbo. I have heard to try and get performance out of the 420a is stupid is this true should I go with the Gs-t or Gsx since they have the mitsu motor?

well it's a turbod motor, and it's way easier to get high horsepower out of the 4g63. a lot of times people spend more money building the engine for a turbo and still have can't keep up with a gst or a gsx.

the 420a is perfectly capable of producing power as long as its been well built and has a good tune. So if you are going to be building the motor up then id say as long as you dont mind taking the time to do it, and spending the money to do it, then go for it
