Well, After looking at both the K&N ($185)and INJEN ($175) CAI kits for my 3000gt, I decided to try and buy the components (piping, elbows, cone filter).  I found all the parts, made by Spectre, for under $100, and put it all together today. Runs great, noticed a bit of pickup on acceleration, not any louder at idle, but when I get on the gas a little, can definitely tell the difference.  Amazing what being on a budget can do for you!!  I'll post some pics in the gallery tomorrow of it.  Next project is the sound system, coming this weekend!!
