I am so sick of people in corporate companies trying to act like they are worried about meeting company goals, productivity goals, etc. when it comes to sticking it to the American public. You see it everyday, all over the world and it is absolutely pathetic. I think either they just hate thier jobs or they are actually under the impression that they are accomplishing something.
Say you needed to get something looked at by an electronics store so you take the item up there to have it looked at. It turns out that it is something so simple that they could give you some basic information on how you could do this yourself. Or even better, they see that it is so basic and easy, that they simply fix it in like 8 minutes and say, "There ya go.... it was nothing!"

Now, take that scenario and twist it. Say you tell someone about how this guy helped you out by fixing your item. And that person turns around and tells you that you shouldnt expect that kind of service. Because they themselves actually work for this corporate giant and obviously the person that fixed said problem should have charged you for at least an hour or so of labor and "custom work", because that is what THEY would have done to you. Regardless of the fact that it only took about ten minutes, and no one was ever asked to fix it? This person just decided to fix it because it is such a simple problem, they just dont see any purpose for charging anyone for this kind of service. The person that you tell about what happened would have charged you labor and other fees in order to meet some sort of company productivity goals. Now, keep in mind that when you took this item to be looked at, you never asked anyone to fix it or anything like that. You simply took said item up there to have it looked at to find out what is actually wrong with it. You just wanted to know if they COULD help you or not. But instead of telling you whether or not they could help you, they just decided to fix what was wrong with it because it was such a simple issue.

Now, seeing that this other person said they would charge to do this simple service shows me one simple thing. They have become a corporate tool. Does customer service matter anymore? I would respect someone that told me, "You know you could easily fix this yourself, heres how you do it."

This kind of mentality is just the same as going into a fast food joint and ordering a burger and a cup of water. And then they charge you for the water. Yes, they charge you for tap water, out of a sink... probably the same sink they wash their dirty hands in, but charge you none the less. Or like going into a "convenience" store and trying to get change for a payphone that is on their property. And they will inconvenience you by saying you can't get change unless you purchase something. Even though they get proceeds from the phone being on their property, they still want you to spend more of your money in order to use the stupid phone. Or get change for the bus, whatever... Basically what I am getting at is that it is just pathetic that people have to act like this. What ever happened to companies actually taking care of their customers instead of trying to find new and stupid ways to screw them out of money?

Now, I know of some mom and pop kind of companies that will actually take care of their customers  because they understand the importance of customer relationships. And because of that the person that fixed my electronic item will be getting repeat business. Because he has shown me that he is concerned with my satisfaction. If he would have said he had to charge me such and such amount for labor, and such and such amount for custom work, after telling me what was actually wrong with it, I would have known that it was something that I could handle myself at home. Therefore knowing that he was just trying to make me pay for something that doesnt even have a definable labor cost. It would be obvious that he was more worried about making sure that this corporate giant company was making as much money off of me as possible. At no benefit to him.

It would seem to me that if someone tried to  charge for such a basic thing, that they felt inconvenienced or put out by my needing their input. I could understand a small company that didnt make that much money needing to charge for something like that, but a muliti-BILLION dollar company? Get real! Corporate tools of America unite!!! Make that company some more money!! It just goes to show that people have lost the ability to independantly think for themselves and have to let a corporation make their decisions for them. They dont stand to gain anything for charging for that cup of water. Or making up fake charges for labor they dont perform. By charging you for 45 minutes to an hours worth of labor for something that only takes a phone call and ten minutes.

So, what does anyone else think about this kind of treatment? Does anyone else think it is outrageous to try and charge people for this kind of service? These companies already make almost 100% profit from accessories and these phony "Product Service Plans" and "Product Replacement Plans" where you basically pay to insure a brand new product that you just bought, that is under the manufacturers warranty, but now your paying the store you bought it from MORE money to cover it for an extended amount of time. But, you can do the very same thing with the manufacterer by simply filling out the warranty forms and mailing them in. But, these corporate companies know the statistics of how many people actually mail in these warranties and so they sell you their own warranty. That basically comes free with the product you purchase. Anyway, that is just an example of how they are already making tons of money off of us, and now they have their hourly employees completely transformed into corporate tools, trying to charge the american consumers for every little thing they possibly can! Way to go corporate america!! Way to go!
