I am rebuilding my heads...my friend thinks I should change out the oil pump "while I'm in there".  I am going to do the water pump, but should I change out the oil pump as well???

It is a 2002 Montero Sport 3.0liter SOHC with 99,000k miles
I bought it as is.  I know NO history on the vehicle, it just dosen't run. it had clean oil in it and the radiator was full of coolant.
After the purchase:
I do know the driver side head is warped and is being replaced... the cam siezed/froze up.

Thanks for any input or comment!

If you're going that far- you might as well do it for added insurance.   Note that it is a significant amount of work you are adding ESPECIALLY if you have a 4WD model.   Removing the pan (neccesary when replacing the oil pump) will be a pain in the ass with the front diff in the way.   Not so bad with a 2WD.

I did not replace the oil pump.  I had the heads rebuilt and after I put it all back together, I started it up and there is a TICKING NOISE ON THE DRIVER SIDE!!!

I do not want to take it apart and check the valve lash.... Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do??
