D1 Grand Prix
D1 Grand Prix USA vs Japan 2005
Irvine, CA September 27, 2005 - D1 Grand Prix has officially announced that it will be hosting its USA vs JAPAN event this year on December 16 and 17th. D1 USA vs Japan is a special exhibition round showcasing the worlds top professional drifters from Japan and putting them head to head with the upcoming US drivers in a competitive arena.

This 2 day event will be held in California at the Irwindale Speedway. Friday the 16th will be a qualifying day where licensed D1 drivers from both sides of the pacific will be fighting for a spot to race on Saturday the 17th. Competition day will start off with an equal number of drivers on both sides that will be competing. Once the drivers are selected , tandem drifting (Dog Fights) at speeds over 110MPH will take place.

D1 expects to fill the venue to maximum capacity again this year with its unmatched drifting and special attractions. For the first time ever there will be a Pre Tokyo Auto Salon show held in the vendor village. Special cars such as RE Amemiyas 2006 FD3S will be showcased as well as other 2006 Japanese tuner cars. Along with the hot cars from Japan, there will also be hot JDM campaign girls representing manufactures booths.

Irvine, CA December 17th 2005 - D1 Grand Prix USA vs Japan All Star Exhibition,10,000+ spectators, was a night to note in drifting history. Vaughn Gittin Jr. a Falken Tire driver took first place in his Ford Mustang over the Japanese drivers. His road to victory was a worthy one for he defeated Yasuyuki Kazama, the 2005 series champion and Youichi Imamura the 2003 series champion. Many drivers leading up to the qualifying had troubles adjusting to the mirrored clockwise track change. Rhys Millen the leading US points leader of the 2005 series was the first to crash in practice causing him to retire. The father of Rhys, Rod Millen the famous Rally driver had his first shot in D1 and qualified up to the best 16 along with the US D1 favorites, Alex Pfeiffer, Samuel Hubinette, and Tanner Foust.
