My speedometer hasn't worked since I got my car, and what the previous owner told me was it stopped working one day after he had some engine work done. The odometer barely turns as well. The vehicle is a 96 eclipse gs dohc. Any ideas as to why it is not working?

Is it electrical or driven by a cable?

Ok its got a cable (thanks to alldata) umm check to see if the speedo cable is broken and see if its not connected properly in the transmission.

I didn't see a cable hookup, it does have a speed sensor, that hooks up electrically on the tranny.

I looked it up on alldata and there is a cable for the speedo so maybe its not there or something.
