Hi Everyone,

I'm helping my friend repair a 2001 Montero Sport, and the check engine light code came back P0154.  I see that others have commented on the TSB with the O2 sensor, but still have a few questions.

Are there multiple sensors on the vehicle....and which would do I need to replace?  Is this a fairly easy repair (under an hour or so)?  I've never done an O2 sensor before, and am trying to figure out if I'm able to pull this off.

Thanks for reading, and especially for any help provided!

code p0154 is for the bank 2 sensor one o2 sensor so make sure you replace the right sensor.  There should be 4 sensors.

first, get the software update that applies to that issue.
only then attempt to replace an O2 sensor.

Thanks for all the info.  What is the software update that I need before I replace the sensor?  Are you talking about one of the TSB's on the issue, or something else?

Thanks again.

I would like to know more about this update as well. We are having the same issue with our 2002 Sport and I have already replaced the front driver's side sensor once.

Does this update cost the consuer, or is it supposed to be more of a recall issue?

Its probably gonna cost you something, recalls are for saftey related problems.

that update is downloaded to your pcm from a dealer only. it takes about 30 minutes to do. the factory scanner plugs into your vehicle and downloads not only that information but any other updates that are available to that particular pcm. bank 2 sensor 1 is the upstream o2 sensor on the drivers side. good luck!!!   greg...

its only warrantable if you're still in factory warranty.
