kingarfer -> To Rebuild Engine or Not (4/25/2008 6:27:16 AM)

My 2000 MS had the timing belt jump a tooth or two, and the result was extensive valve train damage and two pistons damaged. The complete estimate (from a highly recommended rebuilder) is $2575 for a complete rebuild (crank refinishing, pistons, valve train, oil pump, block/head renewed, etc). The vehicle is in great shape, otherwise, and it has 126k on it. I was late with the second timing belt change. The Mitsu dealer offered to buy it for $1500, or fix it for $7500. My instinct is to go ahead with the $2575 repair, and blow my tax refund (plus some savings). Would you do the same? Is there anything else I need to consider for the rebuild?
