DeadPoolinc8 -> Leather Seat Help (4/29/2008 5:17:38 PM)

Anyone with Leather seats and had there car for over a year notice if the leather was wearing. Or if you know of a good seat cover or pillow to buy.

Is it wearing from rubbing and abrasion getting in/out or is the padding wearing out?  What color is your leather?

I have the beige leather and noticed some wear on the driver's seat pan edge (stiched portion - door side).  Also the beige is very hard to clean.

I still have yet to condition my interior, but that usually helps protect it some.

Mine is black leather and I noticed some wear on the driver's seat door side as well, I have had mine less than 6 months, and no more than 5k miles on it.

Outie08,
I don't see too much wear on your photo other than some slight cracking lines which is normal.  Use a good quality leather conditioner and it will keep them looking good.  Since you have black perforated leather use a product that dries clear and use a cloth that has very little conditioner on it when you go over the perforated sections.  I always work the conditioner into the leather by hand to ensure proper coverage.  If i get it on the perforated sections i use a large needle to push the conditioner into the holes.  Time consuming, but looks better.

I've had several cars with varying quality leather interiors and had no real issues with any, but I have always conditioned the leather at least 3-4 times a year.  Over time all leather interiors will wear some, it's the rips and pulled stiching you need to be weary off.

Thanks for the advice, do you have any particular brand of conditioner that you can recommend ?

i only have under 4k miles had the car since Feb. i just notice that my wallet was leaving a dent in the leather and just thought a seat pillow would help make the leather last. since the diver side is the one that gets the most traffic

LOL, your outies left a dent in your wallet first, and your wallet revenge by leaving a dent in your seat.[:D]
Kidding aside,I need to keep in mind that my wallet will do the same to my seat because I too keep my wallet in my back pocket.

Outie08,
Meguiars, Zymol and Mother's all make good products.  Really the brand doesn't make as much difference as just keeping up with regular conditioning.  I have like 4 different bottles in my garage.  Just grab one at Walmart or Target for like $5 - $8 and grab some terry cloth or microfiber towels.

I go over the solid panels first with my hands and then use a towel to wipe of the excess.  Then after i'm done and the towel is good and saturated i wipe the perforated sections with the towel, which usually keeps the conditioner from getting into the holes.  Enjoy.

I was hoping to get to work on my vehicles this weekend, but as usual it looks like another rainy Spring weekend.

Deadpool,
The conditioning will help to keep the leather softer and from wearing so much.  I guess if you have such a fat wallet you can afford new seats tho [:D].  Besides, sitting on your wallet is bad for your back/spine.  I've found the door handle holds a cell phone or wallet nicely, that way it don't forget them on the way out of the 'lander.
