I have no issues with my Ipod, just playing or being charged. I dont have to crank the music up loud. The volume works properly from 1 to 30 or however high it goes. I dont have to crank the volume up high just to get sound. I also use a cell phone charger while the ipod is playing and still have no problems.

See the article below on alternator whine due to ground loops.  Unfortunately, it could be due to many issues, including poor cig. lighter installation (ground wire too long), audio installation, battery connection, MP3 power cord, or possibly a poor AUX connection to MP3 player.  You may want to also try the other cig. lighters in the car to see if it gets better.  The one in the console, for example may be better grounded.  The second easiest to rule out would be the AUX connection by using a better quality input cord or if you could find a shorter cord.  The rest would take some time and effort to figure out.

Search the web for alternator whine and you'll find more than enough info on this topic.

I have been experiencing this FM audio drop outs since I first picked up my Outlander over a year ago.  While I was having my AUX cable installed, I had the local dealer install a new head unit, which actually turned out to be even worse!  Some stations never have a problem, but others cut out constantly.  I can hear the tweaters cutting in and out every second or two on specific stations.  what can be done about this?

I had that problem with the noise while accelerating on my old Pontiac. I installed a CD changer 'by myself'. It was to do with the wires not being properly connected/too close to something. I re-wired them, then moved them to a different location.... it all went away, nice clear sound... until it got stolen :(
