What loader version do you have ? Any ideea ?
Without CD in, do you still get that "version up in progress" ? Displaying it, means it recognises something...
Pressing SET - NAVI key combination still works ?

I have the NR-261UM version, i believe 1.09 since it is a 2009 it should have to most updated version (which i think 1.09 is), plus i believe i saw that while tinkering with it.

Without the CD in, I do get the ''version up in progress'' screen for a second after i start the car, but never after that. I''m sure it recognizes that it''s supposed to do something, but it''s probably getting hung up on some sort of security check which it refuses to loop out of (my best guess).

No, the SET-NAVI key combo doesn''t work, I get no sounds or pictures out of it at all now.

Tried both the update software versions off of Otaku''s site, and also tried both of the original versions. The disc''s aren''t even being read by the system I believe, as the light which usually would come on, does not now.

What did the patch do anyhow? It just went in and replaced the LOADING.KWI and ALLDATA.KWI files in the hard drive? In which case I simply remove the hard drive, patch it into a pc, find the files and replace them with the correct ones?

Thank you for your hepl by the way, you''ve been very patient.

You guys are misunderstanding his problem the defective loading.kwi file has already been copied to the hard drive.  During a reboot, the MMCS loads this file but it fails and leaves a black screen.  Therefore, the MMCS will not accept any more update CDs because the software that initiates the update isn''t even loaded.

I asked otaku to see if there''s any way to force the bootloader to take the loading.kwi file from the CD instead of the HDD.  I never said anything about a bad bootloader.

I experimented with my car last night, if you remove the hard drive and turn it on while its in jaysmall''s state, it will indeed ask for a program disc.  Inserting the program disc will accept, but as soon as it tries to version up, it gives an HDD Write error (obvioulsy because it can''t write to the hard drive to do the version up).  I even tried hot-swapping the hard drive in just before it starts writing and it immediately reverts back to the loading.kwi on the hard drive.  My conclusion from this test is that the order of checks for a loading.kwi program is HDD, then CD, but CD only works if the HDD is actually connected.

So it sounds like your only option is to pull the hard drive and go thru the unlock procedure as rcostin suggested.
As rcostin said, you only need to replace the "Loading.kwi" file on the hard drive nothing else.

By the way, I found some more secret menus in the MMCS.

When you hold down SET+NAVI to get to the service menu, press and hold "MENU" to get to a "Development Service" menu.

In fact, holding "MENU" in various subscreens of service/development service takes you to even more secret menus.  One interesting one I found is when you go into "Versions Indication", you can hold "MENU" to bring up another menu force a program reload for the loading program, bootloader, navi/audio cpu, etc.  Experiment with other menus and you''ll find lots of little (potentially dangerous) goodies!
