I can here my ignition shorting out. It sounds like its coming from The coil. Do these go bad often? If so how much are they to change?

If you can hear it but performance seems to be ok maybe you just have a loose connection? I would check all the high voltage connections, plug wires, coil wires. If there is some shorting going on that externally grounds the high voltage side I would run the car in complete darkness to see if you can observe any arching. Use a flashlight to then identify the location. I would not think a bad coil would just give off a sound without any voltage problems.
