im almost positive the car is out of time and im not sure how bad the damage to engine is

should i try to fix it
1. myself
2. mechanic
3. drop a new engine?

Put the timing belt back in time, and try to start it.

Thats pretty much the only way to tell if the motor is okay. You could tear it down if you wanted, but that is a little more costly.

Good luck!

95 3000Gt DOHC
At this point I know the I now know the engine is out of time. I has aligned the cam marks to their appropriate position. The crank timing mark is at 6:00 (Straight down). This would be about 130 degrees. Is it a given that the valves have bashed the pistions? RPM was low at the time. Is this engine a 0 clearance engine or and interference situation

The 6G72 is an interference engine. I am fairly sure that valves smacked into pistons on this one.

yea man looks like ur gonna have to pull off the head and check the valves for damage... if that happened then just rebuild the head, get it port and polished, ect. :-D
