Ok my check engine light came on my car and I took it into the shop and they told me that my lifters are bad and that my engine is burning oil.  They are suggesting that I can either fix the internals which they did not recommend because it would be too costly or to just get a new engine.

I've chosen just to get a new engine so I guess my question is, since I'm doing the engine swap are there any upgrades to the standard engine that I can get that will be better?  I think I was reading my options were a 6g72, 6g74 and a 6g74 GDI, based on the wiki I found.

Any suggestions as to where to look and possible installers would be great also.  Admins please move if I have posted this in the wrong section.  I did not see a complete engine section under technical.

mitsubishi told my parents that I needed a new engine about 8 years ago, and I am still driving it. you are good for while, it sound like it is the same scenario. I would get an engine out of a junkyard and rebuild it then drop it in. you can bore it out to get more power and add a cold air intake, but because the engine compartment is so small, your options are limited.
