Greeting all,

Any experts out there know if the MDS (manifold differential sensor) has the same functionality as a MAP sensor (manifold airflow sensor)?

Same idea of giving ECU the information needed to calculate fuel/air ratio. Pretty similar technology.
AirMass flow sensors are based on a heated wire of a certain resistance that is changed with air flow by cooling the wire and hence giving different voltage output. Map sensor senses vacuum in the manifold which is function of air flow. Differential is comparing pressure/vacuum before and after throttle, thus giving information on how much air is flowing through at the moment (equal or almost equal pressure means fully open throttle). Hope it answered your questions.

Thanks for the reply. That does answer my question. I have a follow up. Since you understand the MDS circuit, would it be possible to use it to lean and richen out the mixture by varying the resistance from the output from the sensor to the ECU? For instance inserting a pot inline between the MDS sensor output and the ECU? Thanks.
