01 Galant and was looking to service the transmission (auto). Question is (and probably stupid at that) do you really need to find the Mitsubishi transmission fluid quoted in the owners manual or is this just Dextron II and if so, can you add Dextron to the existing factory fluid without any problems. Car only has 64K on it and I doubt the transmission fluid has been changed. Thanks for any help on this.

There was another discussion here on Mitsubishi trans fluid. Do a search as it may help. I know that my Montero takes a Chrysler specification fluid in the RedLine full synthetic trans fluid I installed. I would recommend a full synthetic as it will give better protection and since the trans fluid is usually good for 50K mi will not be too expensive. Try to use the manufacturer's specification if possible, but not necessarily the mfgr's fluid. I think there was a discussion on changing the fluid yourself as well.
