I've been thinking of purchasing a 2000 Eclipse GS, however a few things I have read have me wondering about the reliability. I read that a lot of people have problems with their rims getting bent under normal driving conditions, and MMC will not address the issue from what I've been able to find.

I was curious if there's anybody here who could clarify if this is just something that happens to people that bang curbs and don't want to fess up, or is there really an issue with the quality of the wheels installed on a stock 2000 GS. Thanks for any help!

while working as a mechanic, i saw wheels on just about every make of daily driven vehicle that had issues with minor bends in the rims. hitting a pothole will bend a rim....it depends ALOT where you live...

I would advise you not to buy a 2000 GS. I have owned one and I was a nightmare. I had an all stock car and at 92,000 it tossed a rod threw the oil pan. Bought a new motor and 3 months later found(the hard way) that the timing belt cover was rubbing the belt and had the belt shred, rebuilt the head and not even 2 months later it was idleing poorly then wouldnt idle at all. I found a crack in the intake manifold at the throttle body flange, replaced it and 2 weeks later another intake manifold crack in the same spot , had it replace and sold the car. the new owner has replaced the intake manifold twice more and replaced the clutch and rebuilt the tranny. Yes the owner before me prolly beat the piss outta it but it shouldnt have fallen to peices like that.

Also all 3G eclipses have problems with: noisy throw out bearings (5spd only), very poor brakes rotors warp easily, sunroofs that over time strugle to open and close, and as you asked very soft rims , even more so in the GSX style rims that came on some GT's.

If your gonna buy a 3G get a v6 I have owned both 4G64(I4) 6G72(V6) and the v6 is a whole lot better of a car. If you want something that you might want to turbo later the the I4 is best but Id make sure its a late model 2000 or newer. If im not mistaken there were some trouble with the some of the early model I4's in 2000 which mine was an early 00 model. Just thought I would share my experiences with these cars
