I have a 2000 galant sport manual five speed, and it drones. the sound is worse in the back. Everyone said it was the rear wheel bearings, so I changed them. the drone is still there, wheels have new tyres at Christmas, exhaust is not rubbing, there is no rear axel, it does this at all speeds, even downhill with the engine switched off, still there with the clutch out, and coasting, the car has done 41000 miles, no bumps or scrapes, new brake pads fitted all round but this was part of the "Stop the droning" plan as well.
I am wondering if the bearings make this din even when they are brand new and it is something else, hence my joining this forum,
ant advice would be appreciated.

just for the record the bearings cost me £180 for a pair, and this was a right saga with the bearing company, mitsubishi wanted £400 but this was the entire assembly. the bearing numbers were the same, from KOYO Japan this is what I do so, the job went together in an afternoon.

How do the rear brakes look also are the tires wearing evenly in the rear?

Hey Pablo, did you think about front bearings? It could well be them. I had similar problem in one of my cars, it sounded like rear but turned out the front. Does the sound change if you make a turn on different speeds left/right direction or swerve from going straight? Koyo is a very good choice.

Tyres were new at Christmas, and I have done the brakes all around, this was my first thought before wheel bearing, so
no uneaven tyre wear, and the brakes are OK, even the handbrake. If I jack up the car just off the ground you can spin the wheel by hand with no noise,

No change in sound when direction is changed, left to right, people shout at me in the back, I am pretty sure the sound is coming from the back, I am wondering if the rubber trs that are all over the place need changing, they all look OK but who knows perhaps they go hard, and transfer the noises even with brand new wheel bearings?
