So i have a 2.4 16valve 4cyl ''01 galant which i got with 56K on it and now it has 105K mi.  Yesterday it started making this clicking noise after it has warmed up.  A few people have suggested that it may be a lifter tap.  It doesn''t do it all the time, seems to come and go.  Does the galant have hydraulic lifters?  Any suggestions?  Maybe a certain oil additive?  Any info would be helpful.

is it overheating or running hot if it is then the clicking noise is a result of the hot temp also it will make this noise if your oil is low try checking the oil and fill or change the oil

since your title says overheating then 9 times out of 10 its your thermostat fill up your radiator with water and it shouldnt overheat right away and you probably wont hear the clicking noise and it is the lifters if its over heating and to tell you the truth i wouldnt change the thermostat i would just yank it out i dont even know why they put them in there they are useless to me i find the car runs better and cooler with out it oh and dont use tap water use distilled water unless you live in a really cold place then use antifreeze. but if its not the thermostat then you might have a leak or your water pump is bad wich is a very big pain in the ass to change
