On a completely open exhaust system: If one wanted a loud clear overrun crackle from the exhaust but not an excessive booming low down bass sound around 500-2000 rpm, would it be adviseable to:

Place a small muffler on the central section of the exhaust, or place it at the end?

We are talking about a car with a naturally aspirated 3 litre V6 engine and a straight through open exhaust system. I doubt the make makes a difference.

well knowing it is NA makes a hige difference because then i have to ask...why do you want a straight through exhaust. You are not gonna see much of a gain from removing the cat, so why do it.

However if you wanted to muffle the sound a bit the best thing to do is add a resonator on the middle section of the piping. However i still think a high flow cat would be a better option
