How come so many people dont like the 3000GT I know its heavy and cramped in the engine compartment so turbo upgrades are limited but it is a mitsu and we are all on the same side. We should reserve the dislike for Subaru

I remember hating 3000gts for a long time. I think it was that you get fwd on the lower models. Seemed disengenuous to have this supercoupe styling with ff drivetrain. Maybe if they had the awd na versions here in the states I would have thought differently.

Nowadays I appreciate the 3k more, but it's still not in the same company as the NA Z32 and Supra.

I have one of the most beautiful 3000gt's you can possibly buy. I own a '99... but unfortunately, it is a SOHC base model. I am very disgruntled with my car right now, but once I get my car paid off a little more, I will feel better. It sucks that I still owe 15k on it, but I am working on that. I wish that I had my car paid off so that I could do what I actually want instead of stupid car payments. I REALLY hate that these beautiful cars are fwd, but there is nothing I can do about that (besides taking a vr-4 and making it rwd) I don't know... If someone gave me the 15k that I owe on it, I would hand it over. I never realized that you don't have to spend $20k to get a fast car... Because I spent that much and got a slow car. Recently my best friend picked up an '88 supra for $100 with a targa top and 5 speed. The 7MGT-E powerplant has A LOT of potential. You put 3 grand into this car and you can beat vettes. Yeah... you don't get the really nice look of an expensive car, but you get the enjoyment of beating a $50,000 car when you spent only $3,000. I am thinking about trading in my car for a 01 silverado and put it on bags with some nice 20's and shave everything. *sigh* I don't know what to do...

I agree Mitsu should have made all the US versions AWD like they did in Japan, or atleast have made the NA models RWD. I think they are not as popular mainly because of initial cost. I mean come on the 3000gt was pretty pricey in its day,and still is compared to some other cars. For styling I honestly think they cant be beat! "im a little biased though :) The after market for them is just not as large as it is for other cars, and if you want to go fast for less money, then 3KGT is not the right car! All that said, I find on boards, and in Mags, people kind of dis the 3KGT, or all out ignore it. But in person almost everyone is like.... Ooooo a 3000. I find it pretty funny.

I think they are a very nice looking car. I actually was looking at buying one before I bought my car but they hold their resale value very well and as stated before the aftermarket just isnt as good as the 1g...

A 3000gt is a Sport Lux Coupe. Base=Standard Daily Driver with Good options. FF.
SL(mid grade)=A bit more powerful and alot more Luxurious. Sadly still FF.
the VR-4(top grade)=Has most of the Lux features and a TT, twin intercooled, V6 with AWD.

The (jdm) MR is a force to be reckoned with. Stock 1/4 in under 13. Its really too bad it wasn't brought over.

you now a similar thing happens with stealth es. peaple say its the same thing as the 3000GT SL but they are mistaken. the es is considerably faster and DOHC. peaple also say its slow but it faster than most civics and most import cars its age speatialy with the power mode that allows the car to unleash its fury. Also some of the stats put on the internet are based on the cars economy setting.

The ES has the same engine as the SL. Same Tranny as well. How can you say it's faster? Part for part, excluding the body, it's the same car. Unless you've modded yours out it'll be the same speed, unless you're comparing a 5 speed to an auto.
