Ok here is the dealio. I have a 95 Galant S SOHC 2.4 ltr and a wierd problem has arrised that ive never experienced before. It recently started misfireing real bad and somtimes the way it feels and sounds., its like its running on 3 or sumtimes 2 cylinders when it does this i have very little power hardly any acceleration at all and it backfires very badly. I have changed the spark plugs, the plug wires, and the distributor cap. Ive flushed the engine and changed the oil and the problem is still there. The only thing that i havent changed that i can think of that would cause this problem is the rotor. and i really dont think that it is the rotor the timeing belt was changed a little over a year ago and so was the water pump so i really have no clue as to what could be causing this problem. and other details to the problem are i smell gas very heavily when it runs bad. it back fires when i give it more than a tap on the accerator (and this isnt good concidering the neighborhood i live in it sounds and appears like im doing a drive by), also even though i know its not good for the tranny but i find that if i shift up through the gears while driving it runs a little better but not much. so any info or help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advanced

I seem to be having the exact same problems with my 2000 galant that I just got. Went to 2 different mechanics and they said different things. When I went to pep boys they told me I was getting a weak spark and they needed to change the whole distributor. They changed the rotor and the cap but the problem remained. Another mechanic told me that one of my fuel injectors was not firing. I dont know who to believe. Any help on this would be really appreciated by me too. The spark plugs are new, wiring going to the spark plugs was replaced, distributor cap, rotor all new. I can only barely touch the gas pedal or else if I press harder my rpms go to zero and my car just sputters along as if I wasnt touching the pedal. Also really rough idling. Please help :(

I talked to a mechanic at pep boys and was told that the coil in my distributor had gone bad and I needed to replace the whole assembly because the distributor coil is attached to it.Maybe this is the problem with your car as well? Let me know if u find anything out.

I would try replacing the rotor just see if it makes a difference, but your probabaly gonna need a distibutor.
