I have a 2003 Eclipse with a 5 speed manual transmission. The knob that I hold to change gears is very "loose". I can move it very easily all around. I can get the car into 1st gear, but not much else. Does anyone have an idea of what it could be and how to fix it?  Thanks.

pull off the center console. There is probably a loose shift linkage or a loose bolt.

i dont know much about cars, but i know that the shifter is connected to wires, and when you put it into a certain gear, the wires is what change the gears your in.
so maybe some of your wires connected to your shifter is busted and not pulling right.

good luck to you though.
