well, thats what exactly what i, did....just unplug it, drain it. awwweee yeah, mitsu sold me 5 bottles of tranny fluids. mitsu. sez' to fill em' up w/ 4 + 1/2 quarts. funny ehh? list sez 3 some quarts.....now who's right here??

I'm lazy today, what's the reccomended mileage aside from when it starts shifting like shi*.

ummm, likiely never. Bought used at 14k miles and currently has 25k.

@ 30,000 mi. i, changed my tranny fluid. that brings you another 30,000 miles to eat before your next service.

by the way, use only mitsu. A.T.F. and yeah, 4 quarts and a pint is the exact amount of fluids. ( you will notice drippings and smell fluid if, the resevoir is over fill) 4qts. pint or below pint line is the exact.( no over flow)

Whew, I was pretty sure it wasn't due yet, but glad to hear for certain. I'm pretty sure fuel filter is due at that time too along with a host of other items.

yep...its always the fuel filter that comes first, then the pcv valve ( if, equipped w/ filter ) but other than that, mitsu. is moving forward. use to be uhh yeah you have to replace valve stems...( the rubber valve stem, most galant / eclipse 90's to 00' mods.) but now the stems are welded and its not rubber anymore.

I just did my first ATF fluid change today on my 04 AWD using the instructions below taken from the shop manual.

It went pretty well for my first time.

The tube was a bitch to get off, as expected.

The only problem I ran into was that when I started the engine to drain from the tube, fluid came shooting out from both the tube and the spout sticking out of the radiator the tube had been connected to. Wasn't expecting that! So I had two ATF streams squirting in two directions, neither of which landed in my drain pan initially. I ended up putting a short piece of plastic tubing on the radiator spout to direct the flow.

The whole procedure seems a little convoluted. I assume the reason is to try and flush out all the old fluid, most of which will remain in the torque converter if you were to just use the drain plug. I think the idea is to repeat the process until you see the new fluid draining out, indicating you've flushed out all the old stuff.

Despite all the "approximate" draining and filling, somehow my level ended up about right. So I called it a day!

TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE M1231021500046
If you have an transmission fluid changer, use this changer to
replace the transmission fluid. If you do not have an transmis-
sion fluid changer, replace the transmission fluid by the follow-
ing procedure.
1. Disconnect the hose shown in the illustration which
connects the transaxle and the oil cooler (inside the
radiator). Place a container under the hose to collect the
discharge.
CAUTION
The engine should be stopped within one minute after it is
started. If all the transmission fluid has drained out before
then, the engine should be stopped at that point.
2. Start the engine and let the transmission fluid drain out.
(Running conditions: "N" range with engine idling)
Approximately 3.5 dm3 (3.7 quarts) of transmission
fluid should be removed.
3. Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the transaxle case
to drain the transmission fluid.
Approximately 2.0 dm3 (2.1 quarts) of transmission
fluid should be removed.
4. Install the drain plug with a new gasket, and tighten it to the
specified torque.
Tightening torque: 32 ± 2 N⋅m (24 ± 1 ft-lb)
CAUTION
Stop pouring if the full volume of transmission fluid cannot
be added.
5. Add new transmission fluid (DIAMOND ATF SP III) through
the oil filter tube.
Approximately 5.5 dm3 (5.8 quarts) of transmission
fluid should be added.
6. Repeat the procedure in Step 2. (to pump out the rest of the
contaminated transmission fluid)
7. Add new transmission fluid (DIAMOND ATF SP III) through
the oil filter tube.
Approximately 3.5 dm3 (3.7 quarts) of transmission
fluid should be added.
NOTE: Check for contamination or a burnt odor. If the trans-
mission fluid is still contaminated or burnt, repeat Steps 6
and 7 before proceeding to Step 8.
