wulls1313 -> 02 sensor help (8/26/2005 9:52:47 PM)

My service engine light keeps coming on... after a 60.00 $ diognostic i found that I had code p0141(02 heater circuit bank 1 sensor 2) . Does anyone know what sensor this is (before or after the cat converter and how and if I can go about changing it myself......

id bet its the downstream one after the cat, its as simple as unpluging the wire and inscrewing it. Its not an important sensor it does nothing except tel you the cat is doing its job.

By the way, next time you can get that diagnostic done for free at aamco or most autopart stores.

SonsGalant -> RE: 02 sensor help (8/3/2007 5:51:28 PM)

I'm a tad worried about P0141 code. My son has a 2001 Galant V6 getting this... unusual thing is check engine light does not come on. I mean ever. As in, not even when first starting the car. I'm worried it has been disabled by the very recent former owner. How can I check to make sure the bulb is not out. Or how would I re-enable this light? I require it to pass a state inspection and of course I need to correct the p0141 code... or are they related?

Thanks,

GalantOwnersDad.

The only way to tell if the bulb is not blown or removed is to remove the instrument cluster.  It's really not very hard at all.  It's just a matter of removing the black instrument bezel (it may be screwed in), screwing or unbolting the instrument cluster, then checking the bulb.

Welcome to Mitsu Forums btw.

SonsGalant -> RE: 02 sensor help (8/5/2007 3:51:21 PM)

I did do that today... and as you suggested the bulb was gone. I swapped out one, with another gauge light and presto. Service Engine Light Iluminates. Had local autoparts give me a reading of the codes and it was that P0141 code. Now I put the car on jack stands and I see a sensor right next to the oil filter in the exhaust. Is this the correct one? Bank 1 Sensor 2? 2001 Galant V6. I'm about to order the replacement. My local mechanic says order one with proper pigtail. He says the universals don't last that long. What has your experience been?

Ps. If this goes well and I get it to work, I will post pictures of where its located on the 2001 Galant v6.

Thanks.,

GalantOwnersDad

there should be one right after the Cat. I believe thats the one you want. I had a universal one and never really had a problem with it. Really easy install

SonsGalant -> RE: 02 sensor help (8/11/2007 10:14:07 AM)

The final word here. I was getting a Bank 1 Sensor 2 code - P0141 on a V6 in 2001 Galant ES. The sensor was the one toward the firewall of the car below/after the cat (there is one that is above the cat too). If you were looking at the engine front or standing in front of where the belts are. This would be on the Left below the Cat. I only had to replace the one to get this corrected. Seems many parts stores want you to buy two. I put in a Bosche sensor OEM sensor. I also had to reset computer by disconnecting the battery.

A Mitsubishi mechanic showed me which one it was on this car. He said they are different between makes and possibly models. I used a 7/8th open box wrench end that has that wratchet socket head instead of the a regular 7/8 wrench. This made it possible from underneath with the car on Jack Stands. I also let the car cool overnight and sprayed some penatrating oil on it prior to taking the old sensor off.

With this as a guide for this 2001 Galant V6, Bank 1 is on the left if you are looking at the Engine from the front (where the belts are). That means Bank 2 is on the right.
Sensor 1 is before or in front of the Cat. (not necessarily in the front of the car) and sensor 2 is below orbehind the Cat.    There are 4 on this model.  Good Luck.

I hope this helps some folks.

Ps. The sensors on the V6 Galant that are below/behind the Catalitic converter are the same part for both sides. When I said Cat in former post I meant Catalitic Converter.. (sp) but you know what I mean.
