Ive thought it would be cool to get a Mirage and put in a 4g64 but looking at engine bays, I see that some of Mitsu's engines are flipped in the bay! Why is this and is there any faq or anything describing which are one way and which are the other.

I noticed that 93-96 Mirages have the output shaft on the passenger side, while the 97-99 have the output shaft on the driver side.

Also the 1 and 2g Eclipses have the output shaft on the passenger side. Then the 3g Eclipse is on the driver side.

So will the correctly oriented engine drop right into the corresponding Mirage's bay?

the issue is the same for the 3g eclipses and the 3kgts...i think its odd, but im sure that there is some reasoning behind it

I'm no expert but I believe it may have to do with Mitsubishi's transition to Dodge engines.

most likely the engine is just put in however if fits easiest/cheapest around the frame so that they dont have any difficulties routing any piping etc.

Because they just want to screw with our heads... lol.

Your 4G64 is probably the DSM version. Where as my 4G64 is probably also flipped from your 4G64. There is also more differences like spark plug wires and ignition and a couple of other minor differences. If yours is like the DSM your in luck and I would keep your block and mate it with a 4G63T and have one hell of a engine.

Now if yours is like my 4g64 then your not as lucky but you can turbo charge it still by using DSM parts.
