05 5speed FWD. Drove to Ottawa from Toronto at a steady 120-125 km/h with A/C on. Distance from Toronto to Ottawa is
about 450 KM. By the time I got there, there was just under 1/3 tank left.

By my calculation, this yields about 9litres/100km -I think manufacturer says 7.8litres/100KM on hwy (with ideal condition - 100km/hour, no ac).

I've noticed that if I'm hard on acceleration, I can actually see the fuel guage needle move!!

Apparently, if you keep the tach at 2500RPM, you would likely get the most fuel efficient mileage (meaning, I'm always on 5th gear driving in the city.......)

on the front of the intake there is a piece that sits under the hood to supposedly take in fresh air. I really dont think it helps so i removed it to let a bit more of a rush of air get in. The stock intake is still on except with the front half removed, and oh yeah the box on top of the intake has been removed as well

will you post some pics if you can.. thanks oh and my last tank got 21.16 mpg and thats a mix of highway and city.. a/c on and decent driving, I have a usually heavy right foot.

Average about 10L per 100Km Can get about 500KM per tank. I mostly drive Highway though.

I was reading the outie manual about the intake system and I came upon the "resinator" which is a piece above the egine air filter, what is is for?? is it safe to remove it? will water creep in if it rains?

just remove the whole front up to the box. rain wont seep in and air induction is much better.

incase you dont know. depress the center of the two pins to remove the frontal air "cone" (looks like a vaccum part) and the resonator. then have a drink cause you're finished

Isn't sucking in hot air from the engine bay just as bad as poor air flow induction? Does taking all this off really improve your gas milage?
