My wife has a 2004 outlander, admitadly we prefer it to even our BMW z4 for any trip or around towen mundane chores . I do all the maintenance and I don't have a FSM at this time b ut I noticed a cooler behind the auxilary fog light grill on the passenger side. It is tough to trace(I am away from home and it is bugging me not knowing) and I haven't had time to fart around with it. Can anyone tell me if this is an engine oil or a transmission oil cooler?

Thanks in advance,
Bryan

its a tranny cooler, the other day i saw it and it just forced me to see what it was for. But i like to tell people that i have a front mount intercooler and when they see it the look on their face is just hilarious. I think because that is the way the old 97-99 gst gsx use to have their intercoolers

Yeah it is pretty hard to find..for me I had to take the bumper out to realise where it was. It is said that removing the foglights would enable cooler air rushing into the engine bay. With an oil temp. sensor, u would be able to register 3-4 degrees celcius reductions. I'd prefer to keep my foglights on for now..unless I plan to take my car to a different level.

For those of u who had troubles locating the cooler, I've circled it below.

I've just change the intake setup. Was running on HKS Super Power Flow however realise there was a substantial drop in performance after long runs due to excessive heat from the engine bay area getting suck in via the air filter. Also, the induction sound was killing me. It was way too annoying.

As a result, I opted for RACECRAFT's Carbon Fiber filter with the carbon fiber acting as a heatshield. Advantages?

1) Gone was the annoying induction noises.
2) Smoother throttle response.
3) Dirt Cheap

Don't really know bout horsepower and torque gains though. But certain reviews has registered a 5whp gain on a N/A engine.

Check it out for yourselves!
