I have a question on the passenger front airbag occupancy sensor for my 2006 Eclipse. The words "air bag off" never light up including when the car is started and when there is no passenger seated. Should these words ever light up? (The symbol next to the words does light up which shows an image of a passenger, the #2, and a X.) Thank you for any help with this question.

Is it set to automatically detect a passenger? I thought AIR BAG OFF only came on if you had the passenger air bag turned off via the key switch. I dunno I could be wrong.

Yes, it is set up to automatically detect a passenger. If there is no passenger then the symbol showing a passenger, the #2, and a X lights up. There is also words next to the symbol indicating the front passenger air bag is off, but the words never light up. I am wondering if these words should ever light up at any time? Thanks!

There isn't a switch anywhere to actually turn it off? I mean I've seen the key switch in some vehicles that'll light upa thing saying the airbag is off. Maybe the sensor isn't the only way to turn off the airbag?

if there is no key hole to turn it off i can almost say for sure that it will stay on until there is a passenger in the seat.. like a child for example that weighs in on the seat under like 45 pounds or some set measurement... it will then detect a lightweight and turn it off.... to check.. try sitting half way down on the seat... (like 30 pounds worth of pressure)

Or get a 32 pund weight LOL. This technology is rather new to me so I'm in the dark here. Just trying to learn a bit about it and think on it electronicallywise and using what I know from a few cars that have the keyhole way of turning it off. I figured that maybe there was a keyhole way to turn it off too in case you had stuff instead of a person in the front seat that you didn't need airbagged cuz it'd break it and possibly cause shrapnel that may do more damage know what I mean?

There is not a switch to turn it off that I am aware of. The weight requirement is 60 lbs for the air bag sensor to detect a passenger. The symbol lights up when no one is in the passenger seat and turns off when someone over 60 lbs is in the seat. I wonder why they have the words to indicate the passenger air bag off right next to the symbol, but the words never light up no matter what the circumstances. They do not light up at start up either. If anyone has a 2006 Eclipse maybe they could check to see if their "passenger air bag off" words ever light up. Thanks again for all the help and advice.

Interesting... You may also want to check your owners' manual for information on all that as well.
