Well, I have a '99 3000gt with the 6g72, and it is a sohc with 181 hp stock. In my opinion it is VERY underpowered for being such a beautiful car. The front end, sail panel, and rear center tail light on my car only came on one year... that is the only reason I bought the car. Because it is so rare. There is only 1 thing I can do with this engine (without major fabrication) I can put a expensive ass supercharger on it, but I don't think the horsepower to money ratio is very good

i have been doing some digging online and i think ive come up with a cool hairbrained scheme *gruns evily* turns out teh wheelbase of the duster is the same 97.2" as a 3000GT. this being said, i have been debating about getting a VR4 engine, tranny, rear end and driveshaft, and fabbing the rear end into my duster. there is one snag though, the engine in my car now is 180 degrees off froma 3000GT engine install but i thnk i can modify the engine mounts to fit the rotated engine, and since the front suspension and such would remain teh same, all i would have to do there is flip the axles. and iwth the help of a machineinst and machine shop i know of, put in the rear end/driveshaft. once done with proper ECU and gauges, i wouls have 320 HP DOHC in a car that weighs only 2700lbs or so, a good 1000lbs lighter than a 3000GT (plus the 6 sp tranny topping at 184 mph :-D)

any thoughts on this mod? thanks

well, i doub't ill do the VR4 engine tranny swap, too costly at present, although i did some more digging and it turns out some other people have turboed the base 3L and with great results. adding a mere 9 PSI of boost ups the power from 145 to 260, and if i pulled the pistons and got some better rings (mabye VR4 rings) i could up teh boost even more. although i would have to add different injectors(VR4), a FPR and a fuel pump, i might be able to get away without a SAFMC any more input or advice would be appreciated

sounds like you have a plan.

about the VR4 pistons fitting. its a very good possibility. the VR4 pistons will fit in the 6G72 that is in the 3G V6 eclipse. even though your 6G72 engine is a little different than the 3G 6G72, it is a good possibility that they will fit.

Have you checked out the Tearstone 6G72 SOHC 24V V6 turbo kit?
http://www.tearstone.com

If your engine is similar to the ones in the V6 Galant/Eclipse GT/Stratus R/T then it may work for you, especially since it sounds like your engine is mounted the same way (180 deg from the 3KGT engines).

tearstone kit is top of the line and that is the way I would go if I had my 3G still
