I am about to buy a GT and realize that premium gas is recommended. But is it absolutely necessary? Will you void the warranty if you use mid grade or regular sometimes? Will it hurt the engine to switch grades from time to time?

I wouldnt... But I put High test in everything I drive weather it was my GS or my EVO. All I know is if you put lower than 91 in the EVO and floor it a few times it is putting you at risk to blow the motor

The 420a runs like **** when you throw some 91+ in it because the plugs and the tune on the ecu are ment to run regular.... unless you are boosted then its nessicary. For the eclipse gt deff put the good **** in it. Imagen this you go to the pump and say fill it regular. Then when your pulling out of the gas station you have to step on it a bit to get into traffic and pop! Wow you just melted a piston!!!! If the satan (dealer) tells you to put high grade gas in the car, its for a reason. If you decide to put regular in that poor car then you dont deserve it plain and simple.

put whatever gas the manual says to put in. cars that want regular will not benefit from premium unless your motor pings with regular. for cars like evos/dsms they have a knock sensor and a boost control selenoid. if you put regular gas in there they will knock, but the ecu will detect this and protect your motor by retarding timing/lowering the boost. it wont 'harm' your motor, but its not a good thing to do and it will just make you lose a lot of power. now if you have a manual boost controller and raise the boost and run regular gas, your motor can only retard timing. if thats not enough to protect it, then say good bye to your engine. but i dont think anyone with an evo or turbo is dumb enough to put in regular gas.

Thanks - I dont know what evo is - I was just talking about a regular, factory, 2006 Eclipse GT. No turbo or anything exotic.

Definitely use Premium.

If you want the '06 look without having to buy the gas, the GS doesn't require it. But the GT will bite you if you don't use the high grade.
