I just got my Sunset Pearl GT and I already put 100 miles on it in 2 days. I want to put synthetic oil in it now so as many miles as possible are on synthetic - I swear by it with every car. Is it a good idea for this car now?

Nope bad idea. Go through your initial break in with the regular oil AT LEAST. Don't een think synthetic until at least the 2nd oil change.

I agree. Break in is essentil for the life of your car. be nice to her and no hard driving for at least the first 500 to 1k to make sure everything seats well in the motor. regular oil will condition the seals then you can move over to synthentic. i even sugest maybe a blend oil befor going all the way.

Exactly. Like I said maybe a blend on the first oil change but not a full synth until the 2nd or 3rd change.

I've used nothing but conventional in both my '03 Nissan and my '64 dodge

Thanks for the responses. I havent changed the oil yet. I only have a little over 100 miles on it. The reason I swear by synthetic is the 196,000 miles that I have on my 1995 Dodge Avenger ES (the same as the Eclipse and built by Mitsubishi). The transmission is gone but the engine is still good. Never had any major repairs to it. I am sure it is from my faithful use of synthetic oil.

well what about my stepmoms carolla with 284,000 miles all original with only the cheapest oil possible? driving habits and maintainence are more important than just using synthetic. thats an og motor/tranny btw

bottom line, if you're set on spending so much money, just wait until you ahve 3000 miles. synthetic is slipery and thinner. normal oil on a new engine will work its way into all the seals and set there. synthetic will just leak through. if you dont want your motor to leak oil use regular for a while first.
