just writing to say whats up and to further the debate on which is faster the WRX STI or the EVO. now i am a salesman for mitsu, but that doesn't make me bias because i'am also a huge car lover. now i sold an EVO IX MR to a guy that also has a WRX STI and Corvette ZO6, he says hands down the EVO leaves both out to dry. I personally have driven all three and there is no question in my mind which one i would take and which one i would own.................EVO IX MR......................

What year was the STi?? Cause I've always heard that the STi was a bit quicker that the Evo in the quarter mile but the Evo out performs the STi around the twisties. Jus bought a Evo 8 this month and I wouldn't trade it for nothing.

The STi was an 2005 and the EVO IX MR was an 2006. The stock EVO IX comes in at 286hp & 290 ft/lbs of torque and reaches its max torque 2000rpm quicker than the STi or the EVO VIII, so 0-60 is around 3sec. I had a guy come in with an EVO VIII that had a serious howl to the AWD system when he was in first gear. I took around the block and I know for sure that the new EVO is WAY FASTER. By the way Mike21 his was an 05EVO VIII, Rally Red.

here are sum stuff I heard between the STi n EVO

1. EVO's LSD is more electronical, STi is more mechanical....or so I heard

2. STi has weaker engine internals, EVO can hold up to 4-500 hp b4 internals must be swapped

3. STi's suspension is lower, EVO is more difficult to drift in

4. STi's are a lil more heavier than EVO's

thats sum stuff I heard, not sure if all is true tho...never driven either one so I wouldnt really kno 4 sure

Hey mitsusales, do you know how to launch an evo, besides reving it up to 5k and dumping the clutch??

If you rev to 5k and dump it you will prob. bog it out and lose your clutch\TC rather quick in an 05 EVO they have a launch limiter that wont allow higher than 5k revs at launch unless it is removed. I have seen launches range from 5500-6500 RPMs and dont dump it you have to slip the clutch a little then when it starts to go just pin the gas and pop off the clutch. either way launching the car will abuse the clutch and TC so I wouldnt recomend doing it alot

and to comment on this the EVO will out handle the STi but stock for stock an STi is faster than a VIII (VIIIpre 2005) The STi has a very weak motor the piston ringlands crack with only a few boltons as soon as it reaches arounf the 400HP mark they will crack. the EVO I have seen a dyno of 522WHP on the stock bottom end now anything after 500 they say is a good idea to build it up

mike21 the evoVIII have a more round torque curve so reving and feathering the clutch is your best way to launch. Now with the evoIX it has more of a flat torque curve and reaches its max torque at just 2500rpm, so trade that VIII in on a IX and you will be able to launch the lighter, and more responsive IX easier with less potential for TC and clutch problems.
