Hey guys, this is my first post on ehre, but to get right down to the point, about a week ago me and my old car ( 2000 mazda protege ES ) met up with a tree, the car was totaled and now im in the market for a new car... i have about 5 grand to spend and am very interested in the eclipses, preferably a 99 or so bodystyle ( hate the 00+ body styles ) , ideally ide like a 99 GS 5 spd, do you think these cars would be in my price range for 5 grand? and anything i should know about them?

The kbb value for a 98 gs 5spd 100k all option in good condition is 4700. Depends on what local dealer ships are getting for them. Check out autotrader.com and cross check that price with kbb.

not good to get if you wnat a fast car the 420a is a dog. If you are instrested in making a 420a fast Check out the "how to make a track terror 420a" Not saying that it needs a turbo to be fast but with a cai, full exaust, udp, 6mm tb, and good driving its possible to get it into the low 16's high 15's. For comesitics and suspension theres more crap out there than you could imagen. For reliablity, its iffy. Depends on alot of things, condition of motor, style of driving, types of miles. My car had 85k on it when I got it. Mostly high way miles and it was a beach car. I have replaced all of the belts, timming blets, valve cover gasket, and oil pan (old one rusted out). Now she is at 125k and leaks oil through the rings of cyl 3 becuase I beat the piss out of it every day. Besides that its bullit proof. They are known for bad sensors, whic efi car isant, and a leaky head gasket behind cyl 1.

they are slow dogs. I have seen some low 17s outta them stock. its a N\A motor they do not respond to mods like a turbo or supercharged motor will.

they are slow stock but can be fast with a lot of tlc and a chunk of cash.

Depending on your area will affect your Eclipse prices. Just like stocks the more demand the higher the price. Get into an area where it's all tuner wannabe's and they'll all want Civics and Integra's so your Eclipse falls by the wayside and is cheap. Get into an area that knows what makes power and what they're doing with a car and an engine and you'll be paying more. Supply and demand

lol its obvious that you have nere driven a 2g nt. Some the the cars that came out of the factory were "freeks" A kid on 2g nt.com went 15.4 with just a cai. Others not so much. The first time I ran my car stock it went 18.1 with a 3.0 60 foot at 79 mph. AFter I got a cayt back and intake I went 17.4. After the short throw, tb, and gutted cayt I went 16.6. Now I have a hedder, plugs, advance in timming via cam gears, and lots of misc go fast bits and the car went 16 flat. For that track time, thats not acurate at all. What they do is take the hp, and weight and factor it to a 1/4 mile time. The truth is that the tranny on the 2g nt is balls. First gear is too quick, 2nd too long, along with third. When I ran my car I got every little bit of power out of it that I could and so far its only been able to go 16.
