My friend just bought a 03' Galant and is looking for some winter tires. She has some 17" rims on the car right now and I have 4 half used winter tires that I had on my camaro last winter but they might be too wide. What is the widest tire you can fit with a 17" rim??? The tires I have are a 235/xx/17.

I think it is dependant on the rims themselves. You can buy wider (which a camero probably has) or thinner. You would have to check the info on the rims themselves.

ya but i am asking will a 235 tire on a 17x8" rim fit on this car?

The 235 is how tall the tire stands from the wheel. Should be no problem with a 235 but the question should be what is the second set of number. i.e. 235/40/17 that number will tell you how wide the tire is and if it will hit the fenders or shocks....

215/45/17

However I would trust these more. Looks like Discount Tire Recommends
215/45/17
215/50/17
214/45/17
