if i could have anymore problems with my system that would be impossible ........if theres anyone who knows a lot about car audio systems let me know ....right now im pushing a 12"alpine type S sub - with a rockford fosgate punch amp p5002(i believe thats the model number, but i may be off, ill double check later) ....i have stock interior speakers,with an am HU (alpine).... it blew the one sub, and the gain wasnt even set to the max ....i can give more details, the main problem is that it blew one sub and now i have another in( the same set up), i turned the gain to half, but it practically sounds like a stock system, i know a decent amount about systems, and even I cant seem to figure out what could be wrong, nor can my brother who is usually a wiz at this stuff....its driving me crazy, please help :`(

All right first off did you replace it with the same type of speaker? Also check your wires. Sounds like you've got the + and the - on the speaker backwards. Also to set your gain you should turn the stereo up just below the point of clipping on your door and dash speakers. Then turn the gain up all the way. Then turn the gain down slowly until the distortion stops. Anything below that is fine for settings. Hopefully this all helps you. I had a big long thing typed out but my explorer crashed and it didn't post

Did you check all the fuses on the amp and the wire kit? also take a voltameter and make sure the pinjacks have power back to the amp.

Ok now the p5002 runs 250W X 2 @ 2Ohms and 125W X 2 @ 4Ohms. Where you running 2Ohms or 4Ohms? Was teh amp set to just low pass or was it full pass? also what Hz was it set at?

most likely the RMS power of the amp is way way too powerful for the sub. the rule of thumb is to have an amp that is at LEAST 70% RMS power of the subs RMSpower, but not more it'l blow it and too litte it'l sound way bad. if you can fid out the RMS, and the MAX power of the sub and amp and send it to pimpchevy53_5@yahoo.com

250W X 2 @ 2Ohms and 125W X 2 @ 4Ohms this is rms for that amp. sould not of blown the speaker unless he had it set to full pass pushin more than 180Hrz or may have had a major power spike and this is why i told him to check the amp fuses.
